You can wander across the Mookerheide and the former estate with an old hunting lodge and park forest. East of Mook you will find beautiful heathland surrounded by woods and fields. The Mookerheide is located on a spur of the Nijmegen moraine and has considerable height differences. This gives you beautiful views over the Maas at some points. From the Heumense Schans for example, a 17th century defense work near the Mookerheide estate. Heather grows in the southern part of the Mookerheide and blooms beautifully in August. A lot of broom grows there. The heather is grazed by sheep and cattle to reduce purple moor-grass. Some rugged grasslands on the estate are extensively managed. Throughout the area there are two geo paths, a regional MTB route, bridle paths and various walking routes.
